Mitton Hall wedding photography – Gemma and Matt
I was absolutely made up when Gemma and Matt asked me to be their Mitton Hall wedding photographer. Although the venue is a little outside the usual areas I work in, I was more than happy to make the trip as Mitton Hall is a venue I’ve always wanted to shoot at.
Mitton Hall is a stunning country house wedding venue in Whalley, near Clitheroe. Built around a 15th century Manor House, Mitton Hall is set deep in the Ribble Valley. So, as you can imagine, the venue is surrounded with stunning countryside views overlooking the river.
As a wedding venue itself you’re given a perfectly balances mix of old and new. The main part of the house has gorgeous oak panelling and open fireplaces whereas the newer part of the building, where the ceremony and reception is held, is much more modern with bags of natural light.
After the ceremony the guests can walk about the extensive grounds or chill out with a drink on the terrace.

Gemma and Matt were blessed with a beautiful sunny day. It doesn’t really matter what the weather brings at a wedding, it’s always an amazing day. But I guess it’s fair to say a bit of sunshine does help to get everyone in the mood from early on.
When I arrived Gemma was getting ready with her bridesmaids in the preparation room. There was the most gorgeous light coming through the window and I loved using the light for different effects and feels. The girls where then able to move into the bridal suite which had a massive four poster bed and the same amazing window light.
Before long Matt arrived at the venue with his groomsmen and was chilling outside while having a beer greeting his guests as they arrived in the sunshine.
Wedding photos at Mitton Hall
After the ceremony guests mingled outside and congratulated the newlyweds. It was such a warm, bright day I decided it best to do the main couples photos in the evening when the light was softer and temperature a bit cooler. With my style mostly being about capturing natural moments I don’t need to whisk the couple away for hours on end, so it makes sense to wait for the best light and most comfortable time to take those photographs.
Mitton Hall wedding reception
After the couple photographs it was soon time to get the evening party started. Gemma shared a very emotional father/daughter dance before the proud dad passed his daughter to het new husband and the first dance took place. What happened next was epic..the couple love the Ibiza dance scene so booked aDJ who was going to play their tunes..no ABBA at the wedding! The dance floor went off and everyone was vibeing their socks off!

This looks a most impressive venue in Lancashire, which comes yo life with your photographic skills. I expect the accents of those attending were somewhat different to your usual clients in Staffordshire and the Midlands……
