They don’t need to behave for me.
In fact, I’d rather they didn’t.
My family shoots are much like the way I photograph weddings — relaxed, natural and with as little interference from me as possible.
We’ll take a walk around Cannock Chase. The kids can explore, run around, climb things, collect sticks and generally do what kids do. I’ll photograph all those little moments that happen along the way.
There’ll be plenty of laughter, cuddles and chaos — and hopefully nobody will feel like they’re spending an hour on a photoshoot.
And yes, we’ll still get those lovely photographs of everyone together that you’ll want to put on the wall.
We just won’t spend the whole shoot posing for them.
Just come and be yourselves
You don’t need to know what to do in front of the camera
That’s my job.
I’ve spent years photographing people who tell me they hate having their photograph taken. I won’t spend an hour arranging everybody into poses or asking you to perform for the camera.
I’ll give you a little direction when we need it and then concentrate on capturing what happens naturally.
The result is a set of photographs that actually looks and feels like your family.

There aren’t many better times to photograph families outdoors.
The autumn colour, long grass, woodland, huge variety of locations and softer light around Cannock Chase give us a beautiful backdrop without needing to manufacture one.
Sessions will take place on selected dates from September – November, while the autumn colour is at its best.
I’ll send you the exact meeting point, answer any questions and confirm everything you need to know before your shoot.
What if my kids don’t cooperate?
Perfectly normal.
They don’t have to. That’s why these shoots work far better for most children than a studio environment.
Some children will happily look at the camera. Some won’t. Some will want to run around. Some will decide that the stick they’ve just found is considerably more interesting than me.
That’s why I don’t build these shoots around children performing for the camera.
We’ll let them settle into it and I’ll work around them.
Let’s make some photographs you’ll actually want to keep.

A few common questions
What if it rains? I’ll keep an eye on the forecast. If the weather is genuinely horrible, we’ll rearrange rather than forcing a miserable wet photoshoot.
What should we wear? Whatever feels like you. I’ll send you some simple guidance beforehand, but you don’t need matching outfits or anything elaborate. Comfortable clothes in complementary colours tend to photograph beautifully outdoors.
My child hates having their photograph taken! Excellent, my ideal client! Just wait for my Telly Tubby impression!
Can grandparents come? Yes. If you’d like to make this an extended-family shoot, just let me know when booking so I know who’s coming.
When do we receive the photographs? Within 2 weeks of the shoot, often sooner
Dogs? Absolutely
They’re part of the family. Bring them.
