Pendrell Hall Country House – Malena and Martyn

Pendrell Hall Country House wedding photography

Martyn and Malena

During early May I had the fantastic opportunity to capture Malena and Martyn’s wedding at Pendrell Hall.

I’ve shot many weddings at Pendrell and it really stands out one of my favourite venues in the country, so I was obviously very excited to have been booked by Martyn and Malena, but even more so as the couple live in Sweden and were bringing some Swedish traditions to the wedding to give it an extra twist!

Country House Wedding

Pendrell Hall is an exclusive use country house wedding venue that has been refurbished and restored to the highest standards both inside and outside. The Morning Room is where the ceremony is held and has traditional wood panelling throughout, as does the reception are. The Ball room hosts the wedding breakfast and boasts a more modern feel being light and airy.

Outside the grounds are well maintained all year round with several well kept gardens, its a great venue for all seasons and as it offers accommodation  its no wonder Pendrell Hall is one of the areas most popular wedding venues.

The couple booked me over the telephone so we didn’t have chance to meet until only a few days before the wedding when they arrived back in the UK, but at the meeting it was clear we were singing from the same page when Martyn and Malena were telling me how they would prefer natural wedding photography over too many poses and set ups….bingo, this wedding was right up my street! I really feel I had the opportunity to shoot this wedding completely my way and

Swedish weddings

Whilst there were a few Swedish traditions and touches the wedding itself generally followed a typical English format. A couple of Swedish traditions I found very enjoyable were the speeches; rather than having the usual Father of the bride, Groom and Best man speak (usually for at least 10 minutes each), the Swedish have a tradition where anyone can stand up and speak, just saying a few words rather than a long speech.

There was also a tradition where whenever the bride or groom left the room during the meal all the men would get up and kiss the bride, or women kiss the groom. Another nice tradition was there were two tables placed at the top table opposite the bride and groom, this would give anyone an opportunity to go and sit with hem briefly if they hadn’t had chance to chat earlier in the day.

I’d like to comment on how friendly the Swedish all appeared to be and all spoke English so fluently, I was really made to feel welcome by all.
