Hayley and Stuarts intimate wedding at The Ashes Barns

Hayley and Stuart had a truly wonderful intimate wedding at The Ashes Barns earlier this year. I’m no stranger to the Ashes, it’s one of my most visited and favourite venues. I find the venue, and the couples it attracts are a perfect fit for my relaxed style of photography. I’m really lucky to work with so many couples on the same wavelength, people who want great photos without any fuss.

A relaxed summer wedding

I could tell from all my communication with Hayley and Stuart that they just wanted a chilled out day. It wasn’t a huge wedding but had their closest family and friends altogether to celebrate the marriage. Sometimes smaller weddings give the couple that little bit more time to speak to everyone without having to worry about getting round as many guests, which can help give to a more relaxed day.

Hand Fastening ceremony

In recent months there have been some changes made to civil ceremonies allowing couples a little more scope to personalise the wedding with their own vows, more choice of words and few additions such as hand fastening and sand pouring.

Hand fastening is an ancient Celtic wedding tradition dating back over 2000 years, and has been particularly associated with Pagan and humanist wedding ceremonies. Until the recent changes we only really saw hand fastening at ceremonies carried out by a celebrant (this is where a none official conducts the ceremony and the couple needs to go to a registry office to make it “legal”), so its great to see this being addd for civil ceremonies.

I could talk about this wedding all day but really you guys just want to see their pictures and get a feel for what a wonderful day it really was.
