The Ashes Winter wedding photography – Kelly and Dan
Kelly and Dan had a late winter/early spring wedding at The Ashes in Staffordshire and I was booked to be their photographer. The Ashes is a fantastic barn conversion wedding venue nestled in the Staffordshire countryside near Leek, a great venue for all seasons and every wedding there is unique and full of fun.
Winter wedding at The Ashes
Winter weddings throw all sorts of challenges, namely the lack of light and bad weather but for Kelly and Dan this wasn’t an issue..in fact given this was early March it really was quite warm and pleasant outside. This was great news for me and even better news for the kids at the wedding including Teddy, Kelly and Dans son, who was really making the most of all the space to run around. That little dude is fast..he certainly tested my cameras focussing system!
Hand made DIY wedding decorations
One thing I really love to see is when couples put their own personal touches to weddings and these guys had taken this to a whole new level. All the bunting, table decorations, tables plans and favours had all been skilfully made by the bride and groom and I have to say it looked top notch. I dread to think how long it must have taken to make all those bits and bobs but however long it was certainly worth it.
Host the Roast
The Ashes use Stafford based caterers Jenkinsons for catering and bar attendance. The food is always divine but there is one dish that always makes for great photography and thats called Host the Roast. This is where a nominee from each table gets to wear a special apron and carve the meat for each person sitting at their table. Not only is this great for photos but it also really helps to break the ice and act as a talking point to take the edge of the formalities.
Natural wedding photography at The Ashes
This wedding was relaxed and I was really pleased when Kelly and Dan booked me to cover their day in a natural, mostly documentary wedding photography style. I was able to capture the couple and the guests enjoying the day without too much posing to worry about. The wether was great and a fantastic day was had by all. There was also a very very special announcement made by Teddy…I’ll let the pictures do the talking there though 🙂
